Performing Arts with Mrs. McCormack
This week K-2 will be bringing home some artwork which they completed in Performing Arts in Term 3. The artwork formed part of a Drama and Creative Arts mini unit which was based on the book "Not a Stick" by Antoinette Portis. We read the book and explored the things a stick could be other than just a stick! Students were then provided with small sticks of their own and in groups, they brainstormed different things a stick could be and how they could act these ideas out to the class. After their performances, students chose their favourite idea for a stick and created a piece of art incorporating a paddle pop stick as their "stick". I think you will find some fun and interesting ideas if you find the artwork in their bags!
Following on from our Rhythmic Gymnastics dance unit and to finish the year, we have been working on a Circus skills mini unit which builds and practices drama and dance skills. Students have been learning balance in various forms, juggling, stilt walking, mini tramp, hoola hoops and more! This week we focused on partner balance poses which was received with much enthusiasm. Perhaps your child could tell you about some of the poses they have learnt or their favourite circus skill?
Wishing you all a happy and safe holiday period,
Mrs McCormack
